A tragic incident occurred on Monday evening when a Nairobi-bound bus was ambushed, leading to the death of at least one person and leaving several others critically injured from gunshot wounds.

The attack took place at Bori Junction on the Moyale-Solo road, where a group of terrorists, suspected to be members of the Shifta faction, intercepted the 60-seater bus.

According to preliminary reports, the terrorists allegedly opened fire on the bus, leaving several passengers with severe injuries.

In the aftermath of the attack, four individuals were critically injured and were quickly transported to Sololo Mission Hospital. Unfortunately, one of the victims succumbed to their injuries before arriving at the facility

Footage acquired by Kenyans.co.ke showed a rescue team working to evacuate those trapped inside the bus, while first responders provided first aid to the injured.

At the time of publishing, the police had not yet issued a response to the incident.

Less than an hour after the incident, police officers arrived at the scene and began their investigation.

This attack is not unprecedented on this stretch of road. In a similar incident last June, Al-Shabaab militants ambushed a bus on the Wajir-Madera highway. The group of approximately 15 militants fired shots into the air, compelling the driver to stop and then ordered all passengers to disembark.

During the occurrence, 55 passengers escaped unharmed.

Survivors speaking to journalists afterwards revealed the attack was staged at the Bore area about six kilometres from the Tarbaj Trading Centre in Wajir County.
