Parent Raises Alarm Over Student Strike at Pioneer School, Maragua

A parent from Pioneer School in Maragua, Murang’a County, has raised serious concerns following a recent student strike that allegedly escalated into violence. The incident, which occurred between Sunday night and Monday morning, reportedly led to significant property damage. However, the reasons behind the strike remain unclear.

According to the parent, the situation has been poorly handled by the school administration. Attempts to seek clarity on the matter have been met with silence. "The school has blocked us from class groups, and they are not responding to phone calls," the parent said, expressing frustration over the lack of communication.

The parent further revealed that police officers were deployed to the school, with reports suggesting that many students were handcuffed and beaten in an apparent attempt to intimidate them.

“The school has decided to release the students tomorrow for what they are calling a short-term break, but their communication has been awkward and poor,” the parent explained. “There have been threats against both parents and staff who have tried to raise these concerns. It's rumoured that staff members have been fired for allegedly leaking information about the strike.”

The parent described the school's behaviour as "unprofessional" and expressed deep concern for the safety and well-being of the students. They also questioned why the school administration has withheld vital information about the strike and the extent of the damage.

"Why would the school keep us in the dark about such a serious issue?" the parent asked, urging the public to be informed about the situation while requesting anonymity for their safety.

As tensions rise, parents are left in the dark, worried about their children’s safety and demanding transparency from the school administration. It remains to be seen how the school will address the situation moving forward.
